Did the Hebrew Exodus Truly Happen? Jay Schabacker writes an intriguing book that offers a simplified, yet specific viewpoint that points to the obvious - clear historical evidence, to include, archived Egyptian documents, coupled with pictures of ancient Pharaohs’ and artifacts, chronological charts, and Scripture, all revealing the Biblical account and Exodus out of Egypt by the Hebrew people, led by Moses. Remembering the Exodus of the Hebrews and the love of God, as the Lord heard the Hebrew people’s cry, ushers in a deep sense of belonging and faith to all who read this book. The author has blended the Biblical narrative of the Hebrew oppression to their journey to freedom with Scripture and historical evidence that certainly proves, beyond a doubt, the Exodus truly did happen.
As such, this book is unique in that the author has included four specific areas that cannot be denied: 1) A chronology of Egyptian documents, 2) a listing of Egyptian Pharaohs’ and their burial sites, 3) archeological findings of Hebrew graves in Egypt, 4) and Egyptian writings after the plagues stuck Egypt.
As stated by the author, “The conclusions differ from other theories put forth over the years, now mostly disregarded by experts because of incomplete early data.” This is what truly makes the book worthwhile! Readers get an inside seat (without having to read a burdensome or comprehensive book), as to how even the Egyptians reacted during the famed plagues, and then he backs these ancient writings with Scripture. Profound, the author illuminates the plagues that permeated the land of Egypt. The author has chosen to include the two widely accepted views by experts, known as the “Egypt Approach” and the “Hebrew Approach”, as to the route taken. His own commentary on the belief in miracles, giving insight into our daily existence, which is a miracle, makes for fun reading. Full of referenced material and a complete Bibliography, the readers are free to research for themselves.
This is a highly recommended and enjoyable read that gives clear data, amazing Biblical and historical facts, and Egyptian documents, to include pictures of past Pharaoh’s statutes and chronological charts that bring a better understanding of the timeline and that of Joseph’s reign during the 7 excess years, and subsequent 7 lean years.
I find this book to bring clarity and instill great faith. To those in doubt, you might want to give this book a try. Christians will appreciate the keen insight that also highlights aspects of why the Hebrews celebrate in a certain way during their Seder.
The author has done a great job in offering the rich history of the Hebrews from their bondage of slavery to freedom from their God, Yahweh, the only one true God. A fantastic read!
