Jesus and the Indispensable Holy Spirit by Ernest Gentile sheds light on the Christian life and the power of the Holy Spirit by focusing on the four gospels in the New Testament. The author examines the life of Jesus the Nazarene and stresses that He could not be the Messiah without the Holy Spirit; also, he urgently encourages the reader to tap into this same supernatural source—for we Christians today cannot live our lives apart from this source.

The author speaks of becoming a “Pauline Christian,” that is “to take the the Spirit with full seriousness as the way the eternal God is ever present with His people.”  The author uses the Good News of the four Gospels to explain how essential it is to have the Holy Spirit in one’s walk with Christ.  Without the life-giving Spirit, a person becomes lazy and forgetful; becoming a Christian would simply become a mundane ritual with no real meaning or power. Without the Holy Spirit, the chance of falling away is great!

In explaining the present Holy Spirit dispensation, the author sheds light on God’s servants the prophets and also on Pentecost and being endued with power.  The following chapter headings give some idea of the broad range of the chapters: Jesus and the Holy Spirit, Baptism with the Holy Spirit, Opening Events, Power of the Holy Spirit, Endowment of the Holy Spirit, Affirmation of the Holy Spirit, John’s Special Contribution, Words of Life and Spirit, Life-giving Water, Introducing the Paraclete, Four Descriptions of the Helper, The Awesome Forty Days, Jesus Breathed on His Disciples, Apocalyptic Secrets by John, and The Seven Spirits.

This book comes highly recommended as a concise and easy-to-read authorship, concentrating on the indispensable qualities of the Holy Spirit and giving clear examples from Jesus’ life on Earth. The author has done all the work and research, creating a comprehensive study that would be appropriate
at any stage in a believer’s life.

This book can also be a helpful introductory study for new believers that desire intimacy with the Holy Spirit and Jesus. As a small-group study, or as an individual study, this book contains both bulleted points and adequate Scripture—yet, it does not become obscure.

A highly recommended read! Christian Book Reviews, sharing Christian books with Christian readers.
